Address: Hillcrest School District, P.O. Box 50, 146 South Main, Strawberry, AR 72469
Phone: 870-376-5416, ext. 1006

Personal Bio: I have been employed by the Hillcrest School District as a high school math teacher, EAST facilitator, yearbook adviser, and now I am excited to be the school counselor. I am also the district 504 coordinator and district homeless liaison. My educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, a Master's Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and a Master's Degree in School Counseling for grades K-12 at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Theoretical Orientation: I believe that students (and people), in general, want to succeed. The way they behave is due to their personalities and to the training they have received in the past. We cannot control the actions of others, only our own thoughts and actions. In counseling I will focus on the present (thoughts and behaviors) in order to identify issues. I strive to create a relationship with each student as a basis for our work together. Counseling goals may be accomplished through a variety of methods, including active listening, reflections, training, homework, gathering data, and role playing.

Services
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is available upon student, parent, or teacher request for issues that are affecting the education of the student. The counselor's role is to help the student be successful in the classroom. The counselor does not work with students in a clinical role. We have local agencies that are available if in-depth counseling is needed.
All counseling services performed by the school counselor are provided at no charge. Any complaints about services should be directed to the administrators of the Hillcrest School District: Mr. Mickel Smith, Superintendent (870-376-5416); Mr. Mike Nunnally, High School principal (870-376-5416); or Mr. Shawn Rose, Elementary principal (870-376-5416). Ethics complaints may be filed with the Arkansas Department of Education. Any person can fill out an allegation form and file it with the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, their superintendent, or a public school district, but it must be signed under penalty of perjury.
Confidentiality and Risks
The information shared between the counselor and a student is confidential with the following exceptions:
1. The student poses a threat of harm to him/herself, another person, or the student is in danger.
2. The student gives permission to the counselor to tell someone else, such as a parent or guardian.
3. The court orders the counselor to give information.
There are risks to counseling. In general, counseling may make you feel worse before you feel better. This is due to feelings that you may not have realized you had. You may also have past experiences that are painful and challenging to deal with. Counseling is a process and will take time to be effective. Counseling sessions may be started or stopped at any time.
